A Deeper Look Into 'Team Death Eater'

Film 7, Ralph Fiennes, Tom Felton, Helena Bonham Carter | No Comments | Posted By Justin | December 9th 2010

On Tuesday the USA Today posted interviews with Tom Felton, Helena Bonham Carter, and Ralph Fiennes who play Draco Malfoy, Bellatrix Lestrange, and Lord Voldemort in the latest installment of Harry Potter. We get a deeper look into what Carter thinks of Bellatrix, the over all development of Draco Malfoy. Also we get to see what Mr. Fiennes think about Voldemort, along with cast reactions of his performence.

Helena Bonham Carter, when asked about the scene where she eagerly volunteers to kill Harry Potter, had this to say as to why her character is so willing to commit murder, and how she plays a character like that.

"I just base her on a really, really naughty, horrible child," says Bonham Carter. "She's got arrested development. She's totally unpredictable. You have no real idea of how she's going to react."

After talking about how she finds it funny when kids are scared of he presence when they see her on the street, the interview turns to talking about the torture scene involving her and Emma Watson.

"It was pretty hard," she says. "The sadistic part doesn't come naturally to me. The oddness definitely does, but the sadism doesn't."

But the show must go on. According to Carter the two had tea and had long talks discussing Watson's character because Carter will be impersonating Hermione Granger in Part 2 of Deathly Hallows.

Tom Felton who plays Draco Malfoy in the series had a very tough roll to play. Up until the 6th instalment you feel nothing but hate for his character. Felton discusses his character's development and the times we see his true colors.

"He's a character who's very defined," Felton says. "He was purposefully written by Jo Rowling as very one-dimensional in the first few books, because you're supposed to hate him.

"You're supposed to build up as much dislike for the character as you can until we get to Book 6. We hate him even more for the first half of that book because we think he's up to something and we know he's going to do some damage.

"But it's not until we actually see why he's in that position and see him break down on two or three occasions that we actually start to feel a bit sorry for him. This guy's a horrible victim of circumstances and terrible parenting."

At the end Felton adds in a little quip about the Malfoy family.

"What a house," Felton says. "Turns out they're doing OK, the Malfoys. However, the interior decorating leaves a lot to be desired. And needless to say, Voldemort isn't the greatest houseguest."

When it comes to Lord Voldemort, Ralph Fiennes truley knows his character. Fiennes describes Voldemort as "sort of the devil." Fiennes goes on to discuss the emotional and mental state of Voldemort,  "he's completely emotionally detached. He has no empathy. You find that in psychopaths."

Ask anyone on set and you will find that the absolutely love the job fines is doing.

Dan Radcliffe

"When Ralph's doing his Voldemort stuff, he just really freaks me out."

Tom Felton

"Ralph is mesmerizing," Felton says. "He never did two takes the same. ... I had to keep reminding myself: 'Stay in character. Don't just sit there and watch his performance.' "

"He dominates scenes in the film, and it's like that off the set as well," Felton says. "He's quite a charming guy. And when he opens his mouth, people listen. Let's put it this way: No one talks over him."
